PART 2.a - In Character Non-WH13/Eureka Canon Characters (Skip/delete if not applicable)
Full Name: Mabel Pines
Nicknames: Lady Mabelton
DOB/Age: She was born sometime in August or September of 1999, probably august as it's the end of the summer
Birthplace: Piedmont, California
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Twelve
Species: Human
Fandom: Gravity Falls
Journal: grandmasweaters
PB: Her own beautiful smiling face
Canon Point: After the Society of the Blind Eye
Appearance: A tiny, long haired, wide eyed twelve year old. Mabel has long hair that falls past her waist that is kept in place with a headband, and she is repeatedly referred to as "adorable." She has a mouth full of braces that is made only more obvious by her constant smiling. She and her brother share brown hair and brown eyes, and she is exactly one millimeter taller than him (girls mature faster than boys). Mabel is always wearing one of her custom hand-knitted brightly-colored sweaters, a skirt, white socks and shoes.
History: At the beginning of the summer of 2012 the Pines parents, deciding their kids needed fresh air, shipped Dipper and Mabel Pines to stay with their great uncle, Stan Pines in the small town of Gravity Falls, Oregon. Mabel was far more optimistic about this move than her twin. She was going to find a boyfriend during this vacation, and she had a smile on her face despite the fact that she had to work at their Grunkle's tourist trap, the Mystery Shack, all summer.
Unfortunately her quest for a boyfriend totally paid off. That boyfriend happened to be the first of the twins' adventures in the supernatural. Norman, Mabel's apparent dream date, turned out to be a small part of the collective of gnomes determined to make her the gnome queen by making her marry the collective thousand of them. (This is not the last time Mabel will be pushed into a weird situation where someone wants to make her their queen.) After defeating the gnome army with the use of a leaf blower, Mabel obtained a grappling hook from Stan's gift shop. This is actually important knowledge for later.
Dipper and Mabel spend the better part of the first half of their summer finding and confronting supernatural creatures and events with the use of a Journal Dipper found in the woods cataloging the mysteries of Gravity falls, and they often make things worse before they get better. (More on this chronologically there's only a couple of weird things that happen here--lake monster and living wax statues.)
Fairly early on, the pair meet a tent-revival psychic by the name of Gideon Gleeful. Though Dipper is skeptic, Mabel is endeared to him and becomes his friend, considering him something of a little sister. Gideon sees this as romantic interest and invites Mabel out on a date. Though she's reluctant, she finally agrees. He traps her in a series of dates by being a typical "Nice Guy" and inviting her places in public, where the general population (who adore him) pressure her into saying yes. Piled on top of that, Stan makes a deal with Gideon's father to essentially unite their families and businesses, which would make Stan very wealthy, so he puts pressure on her to continue dating Gideon. This drives her to the point of finally breaking her cheery personality and Dipper offers to break up with Gideon for her. This causes Gideon to blame Dipper for the break up and try to kill him. This is a kid's show! Mabel will have none of this and crushes the source of Gideon's power. This is an important episode because Gideon is a major villain, it's the first time you really see Mabel's bouncy personality crack, and it makes it very clear that you do not mess with one of the Pines twins without the other coming and punching you in the metaphorical face.
The pair really do deal with a ton of other monsters. Ghosts and clones, and meeting her two best friends Candy and Grenday, two misfits who are mocked by the town's favorite socialite, Pacifica Northwest. A government conspiracy that Mabel unravels by being silly and nearly gets the twins sent to Washington DC forever until they're saved by the eighth and a half president of the United States, Quentin Trembley III, Esq (no this really happened). Mabel obtains a pet pig that she loses when Dipper resets time, and eventually he has to give up his own happiness by stopping his crush from dating another guy in order to get her pig back. His name is Waddles, and he is instrumental in many adventures. Video games come to life, Dipper builds a magical grow/shrink ray when he finds out Mabel is one millimeter taller than him and that gets them kidnapped and held hostage by Gideon, but that works out in the end. They're attacked by the Summerween Trickster because Dipper wants to look cool and refuses to participate in Summerween with Mabel's paired costume. She becomes boss of the Mystery Shack when she's upset with the way Grunkle Stan runs it, only to find out that being a boss means being harsh. They fall into and are spit back out of a bottomless pit. She meets a merman who she falls in love with and rescues, leading to her first kiss (Mabel you're 12 calm yourself). Using static electricity from a rug, she and Dipper switch bodies after a misunderstanding where Dipper was jealous that Mabel was always spending time with her friends instead of him. She finds out her favorite boy band was actually grown in a lab and sets them free, only to trap them in her house, leading to her realizing that she has become the monster by caging them again and setting them free for real into the forest. Waddles is kidnapped by a pterodactyl and they have to rescue him from the mines beneath Gravity Falls where it turns out that there's a ton of Dinosaurs trapped in tree sap that are being freed as the heat of the summer melts the sap.
Gideon then makes a return by summoning Bill Cipher, a triangle with an eye affectionately called hereforth "the flying dorito," to break into Stan's mind in order to get the code to the safe to get the deed to the Mystery Shack. Mabel, Dipper and Soos (who works at the Shack and is friends with them both) follow Bill into Stan's dreams, and Mabel is tricked into finding the door that leads to the memory of the code when Bill takes Soos's form. Mabel stops him by shooting the door from his hand and ruining his deal with Gideon. He torments her and Soos by showing them their worst nightmares--wherein Mabel grows grotesquely ugly and loses her valued cuteness. Dipper saves the day by realizing that in the mind, one can do anything, and they ultimately annoy Bill enough that he bails on the situation. However, when they wake, they find that Gideon has broken into the house and stolen the deed using Dynamite.
As Gideon has seized the house (and Waddles :(!!), the twins and Stan find themselves living with Soos's Abuelita, and though they try a few ideas to get the Mystery Shack back, the pair are found out and eventually Gideon steals the Journal from Dipper, revealing that there are actually three journals. Stan sends the twins home, fearing that Gideon has truly won, and not having a way to house or feed them. Though Mabel doesn't want to give up, she dutifully follows her brother onto the bus. Where they are attacked and kidnapped by a giant robot Gideon. Gideon, still hellbent on making Mabel his queen, tosses Dipper aside before he attacks the Gideon robot, smashing through the window and beating Gideon (and the robot that he is controlling) up. Gideon and the twins plummet from a train bridge to the ground, with Mabel only saving both herself and her brother from the impact and explosion with her trusty grappling hook (told you)! Gideon is arrested when it's revealed that he has been spying on the entire town. It is revealed later that Stan, who pretended to be in the dark or unbelieving when it came to the supernatural, knows of the Journals and he uses the three--2 taken from Gideon, 3 being Dipper's and 1 being his own--to create some kind of portal. It's the biggest tease of the season wtf Alex Hirsch that's rude (we're halfway through and we have no idea what that portal does).
At this point, the summer is halfway over, and Stan returns the Journal to Dipper. With the Mystery Shack back in Stan's hands, they throw a karaoke party to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening! However, during the re-opening, FBI agents arrive to ask about strange happenings in Gravity Falls. While Dipper wants to tell them, Stan refuses to let him, still pretending he thinks the twins are making everything up. During the party, Dipper calls them anyway, though the agents don't believe him. So, of course, he raises the dead. The one thing he told Mabel he wouldn't do. Raise the dead. The twins fight off the undead and when all hope seems lost, Stan comes to the rescue, revealing that he always knew things were weird in the town. After fighting off the zombies with karaoke (and un-zombifying some of the guests), life once again goes on.
In search of the Author of the Journal, the twins and their friends enter a bunker that contains a shapeshifter, hijinks ensue and Dipper obtains a laptop. Mabel gets into a secret mini-golf tournament with Pacifica that leads to everyone involved nearly getting killed by the tiny golfball-headed Liliputtians that control mini-golf courses, Mabel and Pacifica throw away their rivalry and become sort of friends.
Bill then returns when Mabel throws a puppet show to impress a guy. She borrows the Journal from Dipper to use from it despite his arguing, and gets distracted by the show to the point she forgets to help Dipper crack the code to the laptop like she promised she would. This leads to Dipper being desperate enough to make a deal with Bill. He proceeds to possess Dipper by terms of the deal and ruins the show. Mabel, however, comes to her senses and realizes she's been a terrible sister and fights Bill, nearly getting both Dipper's body and herself killed in the process.
She tries to help Soos date, only to find that she accidentally helps unleash a sentient AI who refuses to let Soos go. And finally, she and Dipper find out that the town is having their minds erased after seeing strange things when they discover the Blind Eye Society. This is why no one can remember the strange events. They discover that the town crazy, Old Man McGucket is actually a genius scientist as well, who created the machine and through overuse became crazy. Though Mabel considers wiping her mind of her terrible luck with romance during the summer, the twins erase the society's memories and take the gun.
This brings us to where she is now!
Personality: THERE ARE GOING TO BE SPOILERS FOR NOT WHAT HE SEEMS IN HERE BECAUSE IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT AND IF YOU HAVE ANY INTEREST IN WATCHING IT GO DO IT NOW BECAUSE it was really good.
Optimism. I could write Optimism 200 times and it wouldn't explain how optimistic this little girl is. That's the core of her character. There is joy and happiness in Mabel Pines' soul that goes straight to her core. It fuels every part of her that matters. Her kindness, her trust, and sometimes her unrealized selfishness.
So at her core, Mabel is a good girl. Highly energetic and sometimes unaware of the way what she does affects the world around her, Mabel comes off as dippy, hyperactive and kind of dumb. She's the kind of person who will try her luck with any guy she comes across and finds even the tiniest bit attractive and not offer him a way out. This means there's a lot of rejection in her life--and really, that doesn't bother her. The girl is resilient. I bring this up first because it's pretty much the first trait the viewer is introduced to in the show--Mabel's freaking boy crazy. Among all her rejections, Mabel refuses to believe that those who accept her can't be trusted. This doesn't just apply to romancing, either. It's pretty easy to see from early on that while Mabel is well-loved by many of the shows main characters, though she is rejected and disliked by others for her silliness and overabundance of energy. This just makes her love everyone who loves her back more. When she first meets her friends, they're all outcasts, but this doesn't bother her one bit. Grenda and Candy sit on the outside, but they accept her, so she accepts them unconditionally. This is actually a trait so important to her that it comes before the bond she has with her twin. Mabel goes as far as essentially betraying Dipper in the episode "Not What He Seems." She sees the good and honest intentions in Stan, and she sees that he has always accepted and loved both her and Dipper (something the latter doesn't always fully understand) and would never do something to hurt them. When it comes down to choosing between a paranoid Dipper and a desperate Stan, she chooses Stan--because she trusts him. And for her, trust is powerful.
And that's a big thing! Mabel's relationship with Dipper is far closer than most sibling relationships. They're each others' best friends, and Mabel is the only person Dipper really trusts. Betraying that trust is hardly something she'd do lightly. Throughout the majority of the show, Dipper and Mabel are practically inseparable and would put themselves in harms way for each other. Dipper knows practically everything about Mabel, and Mabel wouldn't have it any other way. She has complete and unwavering faith in her brother, though she's aware of his failings, mostly in terms of his lack of faith in almost anyone. It's her job to be his opposite, and to keep him in check, just as much as it's his to protect her when she's just too trusting.
Mabel is also super kind, though sometimes that combats with her own desires. While she has been known to go astray, she does her best to do her best for others. Even in cases like Sev'ral Timez and Mermando, when she has her own happiness at stake, it doesn't take very much for her to change her mind--only seeing the unhappiness of others. She doesn't take well to others being insulted (for example, when Soos insults Lazy Susan, she immediately jumps to her defense), but does have day dreams of perceived justice against slights. They may or may not include animated 90s teenage boys backing her up.
Unlike her brother, Mabel has no desire to grow up, though she knows that it's looming ahead of her. Because of this, she is adamantly silly. Even when she tries to be serious, she fails miserably. But that silliness is what's needed in Gravity Falls--it helps them solve the mystery of the day, and also saves them when the government attempts to take the twins to DC and never return. That silliness keeps things light and lets the twins survive the amount of terrible things happening to them. And things can get pretty terrible. Mabel's fond of bright colors, glitter and loud noises that make no sense, as a child should be. She's very up front and forward with her feelings as well, as many children are. While trapped by a crazy cult and about to lose their memories, Mabel's deep dark secret was that she only loved some of her many stuffed animals. While she has her crushes of the week, Mabel's more focused on her friends, even when her romantic heart gets out of control. She can be very forgiving as well, willing to give people many chances. While Stan has seen the most chances, her relationship with Pacifica Northwest also exemplifies this, as she does come to forgive her and even try to sort of be not enemies but friends.
That's not to say Mabel is an entirely good person. She's a child after all. She's selfish and often does things without asking or thinking of the consequences--especially to Dipper. It's because of this and a broken promise that Dipper is left to make a deal with Bill Cipher, nearly bringing disaster on both of the twins (and making Dipper more bitter and jaded than before). She does have to be corrected when it comes to Sev'ral Timez when she wants to keep them for herself. She does ask Dipper to give up the timeline where he's happy with Wendy in order for her to keep her pet pig, Waddles. And most of all she does break her promises with Dipper. She can be very selfish. And she can be very naive, getting tricked into believing that five gnomes in a pair of pants and a hoodie are a teenager. Yeah. She's sometimes too nice, not knowing how to let Gideon down early in the series, and getting herself trapped in an uncomfortable situation, though she does learn to stand up for herself after this. When Mabel breaks, she breaks hard. And when Mabel gets mad she gets mad. One of the only times this is triggered is when Gideon threatens Dipper because Mabel wouldn't date him, and she goes as far as to completely destroy the source of Gideon's powers.
So, overall, Mabel is a good kid. But that's exactly what she is: a kid, with all the energy, acceptance and mistake making that kids have.
Special facts/special abilities about your character: Mabel is essentially powerless as far as ~magical special abilities~ go. But she's actually very skilled in a lot of ways. She's a master at arts and crafts (she can make a wax sculpture that looks just like someone) and she's unendingly resourceful (grappling hook???). On top of that, the girl is resourceful and energetic and sometimes, it seems, indestructible. She's fallen from the catwalk of a theater, plummeted from a train bridge, been involved in a time battle against a grown adult, fought zombies and gnomes and probably helped out with the vampire bats--the girl's powerless but she's strong, creative and quick on her feet.
What is arriving with your character? Mabel has been dropped in only in her clothes, which consist of her pink undershirt, a purple skirt, her pink shooting star sweater, and her socks shoes and headband.
Also her grappling hook because she apparently carries that on her! It's useful! I don't know where she puts it but she has it.

2. Third Person Writing Sample:
Gravity Falls was just about the best place in the world. What more could Mabel have asked for out of the summer? She was spending a summer with her twin brother who might have been the dorkiest dork to ever dork, and her Great Uncle who she saw like, all of never and owned a tourist trap in the middle of one of the most interesting places she'd ever been in her short life. She got to work and play with both Soos who was the handiest handyman around, and Wendy who was probably one of the coolest girls she'd met in her entire life. She fought against gnomes and psychics and shape shifters and zombies, and it was all with her brother in the last summer they could be real kids. She had a pet pig and two new best friends who she could do anything with--read romance novels or play board games have dance parties! There was really nothing that this summer was lacking.
She snuggled up against Waddles in her hand me down purple floppy disk tee shirt and flipped through her scrap book, her tongue sticking out as she looked for the perfect place to put this next picture. It was of her and Dipper, with Wendy and Soos at their sides, and she wanted to find a really good place for it. After all, they'd all almost lost their memories tonight. Of the whole summer! Sure she had some things that weren't great, but there were parts that had been totally awesome! And there were things she never wanted to forget. She didn't want to lose any of these memories of their last childhood summer, and she didn't want anyone else to lose them, either. So as she pasted the photo center on a blank page, it was with a sense of accomplishment and purpose. A sticker of a googly eye found its way beside it, with the words "I see that you're great!" making the shape of an eye around it. She grinned as she looked over at her brother, looking over the journal with the black light again. Nothing too bad could happen this summer. She had her brother, and when that failed, they both had Grunkle Stan. And when that failed? Well, they still had friends. And when she set the scrapbook to the side table, open so the glue can dry properly, she thought that they'd be okay. They had half a summer left for water balloons and conspiracies and crazy parties and probably fighting evil triangles. All things that were better done together.
3. First or Third person Sample:
Mabel Pines is a curious child, an active child, and a child who spends most of her time dealing with things that shouldn't exist. She's been taken by the government, fought zombies and one time got kidnapped by giant robots. So instead of being freaked out like any sane kid would be, Mabel's curious. She tries to slip away and back into the warehouse when she's already left, but she's not the brains of the operation. It's not that she's too dumb for it, just that charisma doesn't always open doors. And Mabel's brand of charisma almost never opens doors when it comes down to serious folks.
So after peering at the building suspiciously, she drops herself to a sidewalk and unceremoniously dumps out her survival kit on the concrete. She sorts things into "stuff that's totally awesome" and "that's definitely not my name." She looks through things carefully. The clothes go into the latter pile with a grimace. She could use them, she guesses, but they're not her sweaters. Those socks though! She grins at those with her mouth full of metal. She's going to have to knit a sweater to match those. The driver's manual goes into "stuff that's totally awesome" because she's totally going to learn how to drive. She's going to be a prodigy! She turn her head to tell Dipper her fantastic plan and her grin just... disappears. It's strange that he's not next to her, strange that she can't call his name and hear him call back, either frustrated that he's bothering her or excited to see what she's up to. And her shoulders sag as she looks at the school ID she's been given. She wonders how they would have messed up Dipper's name.
"... I liked being Mabel Pines." She liked being a set. She takes in a long breath and smiles and sets that in the "that's not my name" pile, and crosses her legs, pulling the manners book into her lap. "I am going to be the classiest lady to ever lady. This is going to be awesome." Her enthusiasm sounds only the tiniest bit forced.
